To the world at large, Jesper is probably best known through Instagram, where his interior design account (Scandinavian Homes) boasts 475K followers at the time of writing. With the help of social media, Jesper has been able to create his own marketplace, and today Scandinavian Homes is decidedly the largest in its category. When asked what he attributes this success to, he lists two factors: concept and timing.
“When I started Scandinavian Homes, I was relatively exclusive to my niche, but a lot has happened in just the last year. I believe 100% in going for one particular style consistently, in order to create brand recognition. The Scandinavian design style is also big internationally, and my followers come from all over the world.”
What was your initial reaction when Desenio contacted you regarding a collaboration?
When Desenio approached me with a request to collaborate, the natural answer was to say yes. We work in the same industry and have the same target audience, and I felt that we could create something great together.
Tell us a little about the collection!
The common theme is photo art. I love the expressiveness of photography, and am always on the lookout for chic posters to use in my staging. Now I can instead use my own! The idea is for all six posters to work equally well as part of a gallery wall as on their own, and I feel we have really succeeded with this.
In terms of design, how important is it to have something on the walls?
It’s super important! Posters and gallery walls have the power to make the entire design pop. Very often, it’s the remaining 10% that pulls the look together, and adds personality to a home.
How do you build the perfect gallery wall?
I’ll usually start with one focal piece, and build around that. It’s preferable that the designs have a common denominator - a recurring color, a certain size or style. Going by feel always works!
