Our team is gathered at Jesper’s home to shoot material for the launch of the collection by Desenio and Scandinavian Homes.
Jesper Laursen’s apartment is exactly what you would expect - light, airy, and styled to timeless perfection. A long hallway leads into the combined kitchen and livingroom. The walls are finished with black and white photo art - a favorite of Jesper’s that also happens to be the recurring theme in the Scandinavian Homes Collection.
Situated at the top of the building, the apartment offers both turn of the century charm and an urban loft feel - a combination that plays to both Jesper’s and his girlfriend’s tastes. The roof terrace is accessed via the bedroom on the top floor, and offers an unparalleled view of the rooftops - one not unlike that of Paris.
The apartment is a true gem that creates the perfect backdrop for photographing the collection.
When asked if his personal style differs from the Scandinavian Homes-style, Jesper responds:
“I think my private style is a little less strict than the one I stage homes with in preparation for a showing. Compromise plays a big part when there are two of us sharing the space, but I actually think my girlfriend’s taste leans more towards Scandinavian Homes than my own does.”
“Since I work full time in interior styling, my trend cycle is pretty short, and I tire fairly quickly of certain elements. That’s when it’s great to be able to turn to design classics that stand the test of time. This is exactly the reason why I wanted to create a collection with a focus on designs in black & white, as well as muted colors. They go with most styles and easily complement leading trends.”
"We can’t all set new trends. Someone needs to follow them, too."
“When I am staging, both at work and at home, I always start with the biggest items. The furniture functions as the foundation - for example, I will decide on the placement of the couch before selecting pillows. When that’s taken care of I continue on to the accessories that give a home its personal touch - lamps, candlesticks, fabrics, and wall decor.”
Jesper’s approach to staging furniture is similar to how he styles gallery walls.
“Decide which design gets to be your masterpiece”, says Jesper. “I’ll start with the biggest and most prominent piece, and then build around that. It creates a more balanced impression, and it’s easier to adjust the smaller ones should you need to.”
