Author, illustrator and artist Tove Jansson is the creator of the beloved creatures from Moominvalley. Born in a creative home, her mother being an illustrator and father a sculptor, Jansson spent her childhood sketching and painting. In 1935 she studied art in Finland and abroad, creating her very first Moomintroll paintings. Ten years later her first book, The Moomins and the Great Flood, was published.
That was just the beginning for Moomins and Tove Jansson. Books, puppet animations, tv shows, theme parks and museums have over the years celebrated the mythical creatures. Today the Moomin trolls are more adored than ever, a global phenomenon celebrating 75 years of success later this year.
